AON Super Transport Blade Platform

AON Super Transport Blade Platform

All-in-one Solution for Optical Transport

The JDSU AON Super Transport Blade integrates all major transport functions (wavelength switching, preamplification, postamplification, monitoring) required for a one-degree ROADM node on a single-slot blade.

To control and manage the multiple functions above, the AON Super Transport Blade includes a comprehensive suite of operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM) capabilities that customers can choose as needed. The AON Super Transport Blade can be customized to meet the specific architectural, mechanical, optical, and management requirements of network equipment manufacturers’ (NEM) proprietary systems.

Benefits of the AON Super Transport Blade platform:

  • Reduces size, cost, and power requirements of optical components
  • Integrates major functions into a single-slot blade
  • Incorporates nano wavelength selective switch (WSS) technology
  • Enables greater chassis density and smaller footprint solutions

AON-embedded Operating System (OS)

The AON-embedded OS of the Super Transport Blade allows seamless integration with NEM systems, making the addition of new functionality or platforms easy and transparent.

AON Super Transport Blade Applications

A typical application for the AON Super Transport Blade, shown below, is a two-degree (east/west) ROADM node, configured using two Super Transport Blades, each occupying only one slot on the NEM chassis. The disruptive density offered by the AON Super Transport Blades frees the remainder of the chassis to deploy more lucrative service-provisioning 10 G, 40 G, and 100 G Tx/Rx line cards.

As shown below, architectural variants to support a broad range of colorless and multidegree mesh applications are readily supported in the same AON Super Transport Blade platform and footprint.

The form factor of an AON Super Transport Blade can be customized to fit specific chassis dimensions. Also, the demarcation between the AON Super Transport Blade and NEM shelf controller, as well as management interface, can be customized according to preference.

A single AON Super Transport Blade supports a wide range of applications in the same platform and footprint.

Other customizable Super Transport Blade attributes include:

  • the addition of Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) transceivers to terminate traffic on board
  • additional access points (max. of eight) into the optical channel monitor (OCM)
  • the dynamic gain range and output power of preamp and booster.
